If you’re wondering whether Qi Gong and sound healing will really make a difference for you, the best people to answer that are the ones who’ve already tried it.
This page gathers stories, feedback and impact data from Bright Beings Academy students, community projects and social prescribing work, so you can get a feel for what actually changes in everyday life when people practise.
These experiences reflect the Academy's approach to wellbeing.
Across online and in-person classes, people often come to Qi Gong feeling:
Stressed, anxious or “stuck in their head”
Stiff, tired or worried about their balance
Lonely, disconnected or unsure where to begin with movement again
Curious about the deeper mysteries of life but wanting something grounded and practical
Over time, many describe:
Feeling calmer and more centred
Easier movement and less stiffness
Better sleep and a brighter mood
A renewed sense of confidence and connection
The stories and data below give you a clearer picture of how that looks in real life.
'The sound healing session with Peter was a completely new experience to me with a wonderfully relaxing outcome. Peter is passionate and knowledgeable about sound healing, and it shines through. This enabled me to move to the next session Reiki relaxed and ready for another new experience.
Jan has something special in her hands. The Reiki session was like a power meditation session where I was able to access deeper into myself . Jan is really intuitive and was able to pinpoint the blockage in my energy fields, which I already knew of. Really amazing. I would highly recommend a sound healing and Reiki session after another with Peter and Jan. '

'The sound healing and reiki treatments I have been receiving has opened a channel back to some happy memories since the passing of my husband. The treatments have given me huge feelings of well being, and I really look forward to my sessions. I feel dreamy for the whole day afterwards.'
Elizabeth - Thames Ditton
‘As a yoga teacher, I have experienced many types of healing, self-healing and Reiki. I found Peter’s superb sound healing and Jan’s Masterful Reiki to be a unique combination which left me floating as light as a feather in a very peaceful place. They are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable couple who really know what they are doing with their lovely energy. I would recommend Peter and Jan to anyone seeking a deeply effective and long-lasting Treatment '
Neda, Epsom

David joined our Qi Gong classes in Epsom in his 80s after struggling with breathing difficulties and reduced energy.
After more than six months of consistent Qi Gong practice, including the breathing exercises we work with each week at Bright Beings Academy, David attended a routine medical check-up.
During the appointment, the nurse repeatedly asked him to breathe into the lung function testing device several times. David became slightly concerned, unsure why the test kept being repeated.
However, when he finally sat down with the doctor, he received unexpected news.
The doctor explained that the results were remarkable and commented that David’s lung capacity appeared closer to that of someone around ten years younger.
David personally attributes much of this improvement to the regular breathing practices and gentle Qi Gong exercises he has committed to each week.
Today, he continues practising with warmth, consistency, and a renewed sense of confidence in his body.

Christine began practising Qi Gong during a deeply difficult chapter of her life while in remission from cancer.
At the time, she was feeling low in mood, isolated, and rarely went out socially.
Over the past year, her relationship with herself and with life has gradually transformed through regular practice, community connection, breathing techniques, and meditation.
Since joining the Bright Beings Academy community, Christine has lost over two stone in weight and has become a familiar and much-loved member of the local group.
She has also developed a much deeper meditation practice and now treasures the quiet moments she spends practising breathing techniques and mindfulness outside of class.
Those close to Christine often comment on the positive change in her outlook, confidence, and sense of connection.
Her story is a beautiful reminder that healing is not only physical. Sometimes it is emotional, social, energetic, and deeply personal too.

Jan has been practising Qi Gong for more than 15 years and has built a deep connection with the breathing and awareness techniques we use regularly at the Academy.
Before a recent knee operation, Jan’s blood pressure was taken during her pre-operative assessment and the reading came back extremely high. The nurse carrying out the test became visibly concerned.
While waiting, Jan and I began practising one of the calming breathing methods we use in class, combined with a soft open-focus awareness technique designed to help settle the body and mind.
Within a short period of time, the nurse retested Jan’s blood pressure and was amazed to see the reading return to a normal range.
For Jan, this moment highlighted the value of long-term practice and how supportive breathing, awareness, and relaxation techniques can be during stressful situations.
“Individual experiences will vary. Qi Gong is not intended to replace medical treatment or professional healthcare advice.”
Many people share that they were nervous before their first class – worried about being unfit, too old, or not “spiritual enough”. Afterwards, the most common feedback is that the classes feel:
Welcoming and relaxed, with no pressure to “keep up”
Clearly explained, with options to sit or make movements smaller
Joyful – with smiles, lightness and a friendly atmosphere
“I was a little nervous before starting the class because I wasn't sure what to expect. But within a few minutes, I realised this wasn’t about perfection – it was about feeling safe in my body again.”

Over weeks and months, students frequently report:
Less day-to-day stiffness and easier movement
Feeling steadier on their feet and more confident walking outdoors
Deeper, easier breathing and more energy in the day
These kinds of improvements were also seen in the Brighter Living project, where many older adults described better flexibility and everyday movement after regular classes. (See below for report).
People don’t just talk about their bodies. A big theme in feedback is how Qi Gong affects mood and connection:
Looking forward to class as a highlight of the week
Feeling calmer, lighter and more hopeful afterwards
Enjoying simple, friendly chats before and after sessions
Realising they are not alone in how they feel
For many, this combination of movement, breath and community is what turns Qi Gong from “just a class” into a real support for their week.
Alongside individual testimonials, Bright Beings Academy has also supported wider community wellbeing initiatives focused on accessibility, gentle movement, connection, and emotional support.
Bright Beings Academy’s founder, Peter Paul Parker, helped lead a charity-funded project delivering Ki Gong and armchair yoga to older adults in New Malden, Chessington and Kingston. The Brighter Living Qi Gong Impact Report captured what happened when around 100 older adults attended regular sessions over time.
Headline findings include:
Improved quality of life – most participants who completed questionnaires reported feeling their overall quality of life had improved
Better flexibility and movement – around 44% noticed easier movement and better flexibility for everyday tasks like getting up from chairs, using stairs and walking outdoors
Reduced pain, stiffness and fatigue – many described less day-to-day pain, reduced morning stiffness and feeling more energised after classes rather than drained
Brighter mood and confidence – people spoke about feeling happier, calmer and more confident in what their bodies could still do
Less loneliness – the sense of seeing familiar faces each week and “being part of something” was a major positive theme

These findings line up with wider research on Qi Gong for pain, balance, mood and cardiovascular health, which you can also read about in the Academy’s evidence hubs.
In our social prescribing work, GPs, link workers and community partners often tell us they see:
Clients who were wary of gyms finally finding an activity they can stick with
Improvements in balance and confidence that reduce fear of falls
Gentle, steady shifts in mood that support other parts of a personalised care plan
People who were isolated starting to build new, meaningful connections
The social prescribing articles on the site share more detailed stories, outcome patterns and practical guidance for commissioners and PCNs who want to add Qi Gong to their offer.
